Two U.S. Olympic Medal Contenders -

BERKELEY, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- PowerBar Inc. today announced
that it has signed an endorsement contract with Michael Phelps and has renewed
its sponsorship agreement with Lenny Krayzelburg, two top U.S. swimmers
currently training for the 2004 Olympic Games. The contracts name PowerBar as
the exclusive energy bar sponsor to Phelps, the 18-year old, 11-time world
record holder and Krayzelburg, triple Olympic gold medalist.

"Since I started swimming competitively, PowerBar Performance bars have
been my go-to energy source to gear up for intense workouts and to recharge
afterwards," said Phelps. "On average, I'm in the water about five hours a
day and burn through about 2-3,000 calories. Proper nutrition is an essential
contributor to my athletic performance and I'm psyched to have PowerBar on my
team as a nutritional partner as I prepare for Athens."

A 2000 Olympian, Phelps was the youngest male to compete in the Olympic
Games since 1932, finishing fifth in the 200m butterfly at age 15. Since
then, he became the youngest man ever to break a world record at 15 years,
nine months in the 200m butterfly (2001 Spring Nationals), the first swimmer
to set five world records at one meet (2003 FINA World Championships), and the
first man in history to win titles in three different strokes at one national
championship (2003). Phelps is the current world-record holder in the 200m
butterfly and 200m and 400m individual medleys, and aspires to win his first
Olympic Gold Medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

"Over the years, we've had more than 200 U.S. Olympic hopefuls use
PowerBar products in training and competition," said PowerBar Marketing
Manager Stephanie Brendel. "Elite athletes like Michael and Lenny require an
incredible amount of energy for optimal performance, and we're proud to
provide the nutritional tools they need to help them reach their Olympic
goals."

A PowerBar sponsored-athlete for more than four years, Krayzelburg
dominated the swimming events at the 2000 Olympic Games taking home gold
medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 400m medley relay. PowerBar
proudly renewed its official partnership with the swimming hero earlier this
month. "With the July U.S. Olympic Team Trials just around the corner, my
training is at an all-time high," said Krayzelburg. "I rely on PowerBar
nutrition to fuel up for my two daily practices and to replenish calories
burned after my workouts." In addition to being a triple gold medalist,
Krayzelburg also is the current world record holder in the 100m backstroke.

Both Phelps and Krayzelburg are currently training to compete for top
spots on the U.S. Olympic Team in swimming at the July 7-14 U.S. Olympic Team
Trials in Long Beach, California. The swimmers join PowerBar's "Team Athens"
roster, a group of more than 70 PowerBar-sponsored U.S. Olympic hopefuls and
Olympians poised to realize their athletic dreams at the 2004 Olympic Games in
Athens. For additional information about these top U.S. swimmers and PowerBar

"Considering the intense workouts that swimmers do daily and sometimes
twice a day, recovery is a critical part of an athlete's training regimen and
there are important nutritional strategies to enhance recovery," said PowerBar
Nutritionist Eric Zaltas. "PowerBar Performance energy bars are an easily-
digestible, fast-acting food that fuels workouts and helps jump-start the
recovery process with the right balance of easily-digestible carbs and
protein. Consumed within 30-60 minutes after exercise, the nutrients found in
PowerBar Performance stimulate both muscle glycogen recovery and muscle
protein repair to help prepare muscles for the next workout."

PowerBar is the Official Nutritional Energy Bar Supplier of the 2004 U.S.
Olympic Team, proudly providing U.S. Olympic Team members with nutritional
tools to help fuel their athletic dreams. PowerBar products are incorporated
into nutrition programs at U.S. Olympic Training Centers and will be
distributed to U.S. Olympians at the Olympic Village and the American College
of Greece in Athens, Greece.
